segundo idioma.
The book invites young readers to immerse themselves in a rich and
playful world through the adventures of a boy in the Amazon rainforest.
In an engaging way, it introduces information about the forest and,
above all, fosters a sense of responsibility for its preservation.
It also includes a forest vocabulary section that broadens readers’
knowledge, offering more than information alone: it provides a
meaningful and mindful learning experience.
Mother and daughter, the authors transform their life experiences into
stories that educate with sensitivity and purpose. With the mother
working in Brazil and the daughter in the United States, they
collaborate on bilingual books that broaden horizons and enrich the
learning process.
Their books are born from a desire to inspire curiosity, imagination,
environmental responsibility, and a love of reading in children from an
early age, while also fostering natural exposure to a second
language.

Author’s Note
What happens when a child’s curious gaze encounters the vastness of the world’s largest tropical rainforest? Written jointly by mother and daughter, this bilingual book invites young explorers to immerse themselves in the colors, sounds, and mysteries of the forest and to discover that exploring the Amazon means discovering a world far greater than we can imagine.
The profound environmental changes that have intensified in recent years were the primary inspiration for this small book.
The indiscriminate and irresponsible use of natural resources has destroyed, contaminated, and polluted our water sources, while also threatening countless animal and plant species.
Indeed, our greatest purpose arose from the desire to awaken in children, from an early age, a sense of environmental responsibility: a duty that must be learned early in life in order to actively prevent harm to the environment. For this to happen, however, children must first come to know and appreciate what they are called upon to protect. Our goal here is not to teach lessons in ecology, but to help children fall in love with the forest and learn the names of its animals, plants, and legends, inviting them to view it with both wonder and respect. After all, we only protect what we know.
At the end of the book, we have included an extensive forest vocabulary with the aim of encouraging research and expanding the linguistic repertoire of young readers, who often delight in discovering new and unusual words.
The Amazon is a universe of discoveries, and this book has a place both in family reading and in the classroom, as its pages offer rich and versatile educational opportunities: language development in both languages, as well as connections to science lessons (biomes) and social studies.
All of us — authorities, adults, young people, and children — share responsibility for the environment and must work to protect it and combat every form of environmental degradation.
Our hope is that every young reader will feel like a guardian of the forest and become a new friend of it, just like Forrest.
